Dermal Fillers Versus Face Lift Surgery- How To Choose which Is Right For You?

Aging is inevitable and one cannot change the natural aging process. With aging facial muscles lose their tone, skin becomes thin and fat below the skin is lost.  The face loses its youthful fuller look and appears wrinkled, flabby & drooping. The sun exposure, gravity, and smoking accelerate this aging process.
These visible signs of the aging face can be very well reversed with injectable fillers or facelift surgery.

Dermal Filler Injections / Liquid Face Lift-
Dermal Fillers are nowadays hugely popular. More and more people are asking for dermal filler injections or so-called ‘Liquid Face Lift’. There are various types of injectable fillers and they are mostly used to-
1.       Restore lost volume of the face and augment cheeks & lips.
2.       Soften deep lines (Nasolabial folds)
3.       Smoothen fine lines like upper lip lines
4.       Erase creases like Marionette lines
In Liquid Face Lifts dermal fillers are used in combination with Botox to address Forehead lines, Frown lines and Crow’s feet.
In the short term, the dermal fillers / Liquid facelift is cost effective. It doesn’t require any anesthesia and can be done as ‘Lunch Time Procedure ‘ or ‘Office Procedure’.The result is quick and downtime is minimal. On the other hand, dermal fillers require repeated sittings to maintain the result. They do not address the problem of loose skin and are not very effective in advanced facial aging changes.
Face Lift Surgery-
In facelift surgery excess, drooping facial skin is trimmed, facial muscles are repositioned and tightened. It can be combined with facial fat grafting to replace the lost volume of the face. Thus it addresses all core issues of an aging face. The facelift surgery is more invasive,  requires anesthesia and has longer downtime. But the results are more amazing ( especially in advanced facial aging) and long-lasting. It can also address neck lift for an aging neck simultaneously.
Things To Consider Before You Go Ahead-
1.       Severity Of Aging Changes-Somebody in his/her the thirties or early forties with minimal to moderate aging signs are the ideal candidates for dermal fillers but with more advanced sings like multiple wrinkles & loose skin, facelift surgery is the gold standard.
2.       Invasiveness- Since facelift surgery is more invasive than dermal filler injections. For individuals who are scared of incisions and scar over the face, dermal fillers are a preferred option.
3.       Longevity Of Result- Result of facelift surgery last much longer( for years) than dermal fillers( few months).
4.       Recovery Time- Dermal fillers are done as an office procedure, results are quick and downtime is much less. While recovery after facelift surgery may take a few weeks.
5.       Your Budget- In short term dermal fillers are much more cost effective than surgery. But since they need to be repeated to maintain the effect, in the long term their cumulative cost may turn out to be much more than single sitting facelift surgery.
